  • Drug development boost from microscopy project May 23, 2019
Approximately 80 per cent of new drugs fail when they reach clinical trials, as researchers are unable to fully investigate their effects within living organisms before this stage. Now a new £30m electron microscopy project is aiming to allow researchers to see how a particular drug works within a patient at a cellular level, before […] The post Drug develop […]
  • Water-activated material may find applications in robotics May 23, 2019
Columbia University team develops composite containing bacterial matter that responds to humidity  Most soft robotics systems rely on synthetic polymers which respond to external stimuli to produce their movement. However, such polymers tend to be slow to respond, cannot generate high power or force, and fail on contact with water. The Columbia team, based i […]
  • RoboRaise reads signals to co-operate with humans May 23, 2019
Robots might one day work intuitively with humans following the development of RoboRaise, a system that lets machines detect changes in a person’s movements in order to mirror them. The advance from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) could lead to robot-human interaction in manufacturing and construction settings. CSAIL’s R […]
