  • Audio-visual treatment points to Alzheimer’s breakthrough October 23, 2019
Human trials are underway of a technique that uses light and sound to stimulate brain activity and stem the flow of Alzheimer’s. Known as GENUS (Gamma Entrainment Using Sensory stimuli), the method has successfully been trialled in mice, reducing the build-up of amyloid and tau proteins associated with the disease and improving brain function. Flickering […] […]
  • Hybrid material makes the aerospace-grade October 23, 2019
Engineers have proposed an alternative to aluminium for the leading edges of aircraft wings after the material demonstrated encouraging aerospace-grade qualities in tests. The material combines steel composite metal foam (CMF) and epoxy resin to form a hybrid material dubbed ‘infused CMF’ by the team that developed it at North Carolina State University (NC S […]

  • Syngas from artificial leaf offers sustainable liquid fuels October 22, 2019
Researchers have developed a method of making syngas with an ‘artificial leaf’, an advance inspired by photosynthesis that could be used to develop a liquid fuel alternative to petrol. The artificial leaf from Cambridge University is powered by sunlight and does not release any additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The results are reported in Nature […]
